A template gives you a pre-built screen layout as a starting point instead of a blank canvas. FlowPilot surfaces templates through a one-time template picker that appears the first time you open a newly created flow in the editor.

When the template picker appears

When you click New Flow (see Managing flows), FlowPilot creates a flow with a default welcome screen and opens it in the editor. On this first visit a modal titled Start from a template appears, with the prompt:
Pick a starting point for your flow. You can always change everything later.
The picker is a one-time prompt per flow. Once you choose an option (or dismiss the modal), it does not appear again for that flow.
The template picker lives in the Flow Editor, not on the dashboard Flows list. There is no separate “create from template” button on the Flows page. Every new flow starts the same way: create it, then pick a template (or start blank) when the editor opens.

The template options

The picker shows five screen templates plus a blank option. Each one replaces the default welcome screen with its layout.
TemplateWhat it gives you
WelcomeHero image, headline, and a Get Started button.
ChoicePick-one selection list with a gated Continue.
Input CollectionForm fields with a Continue button.
Feature TourThree benefits with icons, then Continue.
Social ProofStats, testimonial, and rating with Continue.
Start blankKeep the default welcome screen and build from scratch.
These are single-screen templates. Picking one sets up the first screen of your flow. You add and connect more screens yourself from the Layers panel. See Your first screen.

How a template is applied

1

Create the flow

Click New Flow on the Flows page. The flow opens in the editor with one welcome screen.
2

Pick a template

In the Start from a template modal, click the card you want. The chosen layout (and any variables it needs) replaces the content of the welcome screen.
3

Or start blank

Click Start blank, or close the modal (the X button, the Escape key, or clicking outside it). All of these keep the default welcome screen so you can build from scratch.
The picker only appears on a fresh flow that still has the default welcome screen, and picking a template replaces that one screen’s content. It does not wipe a flow you have already built. If you want to start over with a template, create a new flow.

Templates vs blocks

A flow template seeds the first screen of a brand-new flow. A block is a curated multi-component preset (for example a card, a choice list, or a hero section) that you drop onto any screen at any time from the editor’s blocks panel. The template picker reuses the same five screen presets that also appear as blocks, but the picker is the one-time new-flow prompt, while blocks are always available while editing. For the full catalog of blocks, see Blocks.

Common mistakes

  • Looking for a template gallery on the dashboard. There is none. Templates are offered only by the editor’s one-time picker when a new flow opens.
  • Expecting a multi-screen template. Each option sets up a single screen. Build the rest of the flow yourself.
  • Trying to re-open the picker on an existing flow. It is one-time per flow. To use a template again, create a new flow.
